Clareon Vivity EDOF Lens : Cataract Surgery in Michigan

The only non-diffractive extended depth of focus IOL : exceptional distance and intermediate vision with a monofocal-like dysphotopsia profile and minimal halos.

Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) IOLAlcon Wixom, MI · serving Metro Detroit (248) 232-1777

About This Lens

The Clareon Vivity EDOF IOL by Alcon uses proprietary X-WAVE Technology, a non-diffractive design that stretches and shifts one continuous wavefront. The defocus curve shows a smooth plateau from distance through -1.5D (66cm), then a gradual decline. Clinical data confirm 0.1 logMAR or better between -2.0D and +1.0D, reflecting Vivity's outstanding distance-to-intermediate clarity with a dysphotopsia profile closer to a monofocal than any other premium IOL.

Clinical Performance

Defocus Curve : Clareon Vivity

The defocus curve below is based on published binocular clinical trial data, showing visual acuity (logMAR) across a range of distances. Lower values indicate sharper vision. The gray dashed line shows a standard monofocal lens for comparison. Stars reflect clinical performance at distance, intermediate, and near based on the published data.

Key Features

What Sets the Clareon Vivity Apart

  • X-WAVE Technology: non-diffractive design producing fewer halos than diffractive trifocals
  • Smooth plateau defocus curve: continuous, uninterrupted vision from distance through intermediate at 66cm
  • Monofocal-like dysphotopsia profile: best-in-class nighttime performance among premium IOLs
  • FDA EDOF designation: the only non-diffractive IOL meeting all four ANSI criteria for EDOF classification
  • Clareon material: glistening-free hydrophobic acrylic with UV and blue light filtering

Patient Candidacy

Who Is the Clareon Vivity Best For?

Vivity is best suited for patients who prioritize outstanding distance and intermediate vision with the least possible nighttime visual disturbances.

  • Patients who drive frequently at night and are sensitive to halos
  • Patients with active outdoor lifestyles requiring excellent distance vision
  • Patients comfortable using reading glasses occasionally for fine near work
  • Patients with mild pre-existing eye conditions where diffractive designs may be less suitable

Patients who require strong near vision without any reading glasses may prefer a trifocal such as PanOptix. Vivity prioritizes a clean nighttime experience over maximizing near vision.
